๐Ÿ“„The AI PM Resume

Lead with the AI artifact. Reframe every bullet through the AI lens. The resume that gets the interview is structurally different.

Why it matters

Recruiters screen AI PM resumes in 6 seconds. If the first thing they see isn't AI-specific, you're rejected before the read. The structure matters as much as the content.

The core idea

An AI PM resume leads with: (1) headline with AI PM positioning, (2) summary mentioning AI work explicitly, (3) the AI artifact or AI project prominently in experience, (4) a 'Technical AI Skills' section, (5) each bullet recast through AI lens where possible. The reader should see 'AI' three times in the top half of the page.

The structure

Header. Name, location, email, LinkedIn, portfolio URL.

Headline. "AI Product Manager โ€” built [artifact name], previously [most relevant prior]."

Summary (optional, 2-3 lines). "Senior PM with [N] years building [domain]. Shipped [AI artifact] reaching [users/results]. Specialized in [RAG / agents / evals / vertical]."

Experience. Most recent first. Each role:

  • Company, title, dates
  • 2-4 bullets per role, leading with the most relevant
  • For your most recent role, include any AI work you've done โ€” even small. Reframe other work through outcomes.

AI Side Projects (if separate from work). Treat the artifact like a job. Title, dates, 2-3 bullets describing what it does, technical stack, results.

Technical AI Skills. Bulleted. Models used, RAG / agents / evals experience, tools (Cursor, Bolt, OpenAI/Anthropic APIs), languages if relevant.

Education. Brief.

The bullet rewrite

Bad (generic): "Drove cross-functional initiatives to launch new features."

Good (AI-recast): "Led 0โ†’1 build of AI-assisted onboarding flow at [company]. Designed eval suite (100+ inputs, LLM-as-judge), tuned prompts to 92% pass rate, shipped to 50K MAU within 8 weeks. D7 activation moved from 38% to 51%."

The pattern: specific role, specific AI capability, specific eval discipline, specific outcome.

What recruiters scan for

In 6 seconds, they're looking for:

  • The word 'AI' or 'LLM' multiple times in the top half
  • A shipped AI artifact (with link)
  • A familiar tool name (Cursor, Claude API, etc.)
  • A company name that gives credibility

Without those signals, you don't make the second look.

What to delete

  • Generic PM bullets ('partnered with stakeholders to align on roadmap')
  • Pre-2020 details (unless extraordinarily relevant)
  • Hobbies, volunteer work, unless they signal something specific
  • Skills sections listing every tool you've ever touched

The resume should be 1 page (for <8 yrs experience) or 2 pages max (senior).

The portfolio link

Critical. Put a portfolio URL in the header. The portfolio includes:

  • The AI artifact (live, working, accessible)
  • The teardown post
  • 1-2 case studies if you have them
  • Brief bio

The portfolio is where recruiters who liked the resume go to validate. Make it excellent.

What 2026 hiring managers say

Quote pattern from many AI PM hiring managers: "I scan for the artifact. If they've built something real, they're past the first cut. Most PMs who say they 'want to be an AI PM' haven't done it. The ones who have stand out instantly."

Interview questions (1)

Q1
What makes a great AI PM resume different from a regular PM resume?

Five structural differences:

  1. Headline includes 'AI PM' positioning. Not generic PM.
  1. A shipped AI artifact in the top third of the page. Live URL. This is the single most important differentiator.
  1. 'Technical AI Skills' section. Models used, RAG / agents / evals experience, vibe-coding tools. Signals fluency.
  1. Bullets recast through AI lens. Every relevant project is reframed in terms of what was AI-specific โ€” eval discipline, prompt design, model choice, cost optimization.
  1. Portfolio URL in header. The portfolio extends the resume โ€” artifact, teardown post, case studies.

The reader should see 'AI' three+ times in the top half. Without that, the resume looks like a generic PM trying to break into AI without evidence. With it, they look like an AI PM who's done the work.
